The best time of year to visit Europe depends on each particular traveler’s taste. Whether a person is looking for a snow-filled getaway or some relaxing time at a beach resort, Europe features spots that are ideal for any type of seasonal travel.

Winter

Avid skiers and snowboarders can find plenty of places to enjoy some fresh powder during the winter months. Kitzbuhel, Solden and Alpbach are a few of Austria’s acclaimed ski resorts that feature runs appropriate for all levels. Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, a commune located in the southeast part of France, is the perfect location to partake in activities such as extreme skiing and ice climbing. The winter is also an ideal time for budget travelers who wish to visit London, Paris and other renowned European capitals at a much cheaper rate. Travelers who would like to visit landmarks, museums and other places of interest without having to deal with an influx of other tourists can enjoy some extra breathing room by coming to Europe in the winter.

Spring

This season is perfect for tourists who do not like extreme temperatures. Much of the continent regularly experiences sunny skies and climate conditions that only require a light jacket to be worn. Southern Italy, Greece and other areas that can be exceptionally hot in the summer still experience pleasantly warm weather and generally dry conditions during the spring. Colorful tulips can be seen blooming throughout much of the Netherlands. Brown bears and other wildlife creatures finally awakening from hibernation are visible from a safe distance in Finland’s Taiga Forest. The fact that many of the locals are still home during this season and have not yet gone on vacation to other destinations gives tourists a better chance to interact with native Europeans.

Summer

Summer is the time of year that Europe sees its largest numbers of tourists from all parts of the world. Many of the top attractions, which are sometimes under renovation during other times of the year, are open with unrestricted access in order to accommodate the influx of visitors. Beaches and seaside resorts along the French Riviera and Italy’s Amalfi Coast provide a respite from the hot weather. The often dry conditions also provide the perfect opportunity to take a bike tour through the English countryside and spend the night at a charming bed and breakfast. Visitors who want to travel to the northernmost areas of Scandinavia can do so without having to battle frigid temperatures. Moscow, Budapest and other cities throughout Eastern Europe that are known to have adverse climate conditions throughout much of the year are usually a safe bet to visit during the summer.

Autumn

The colorful fall foliage omnipresent throughout much of Europe provides terrific opportunities for people who wish to go on photography tours. Some of the best places to see the leaves change color include cities like Oslo, Amsterdam and Berlin. Festivals taking place in Italy’s Tuscany region that celebrate the harvesting of wine grapes offer visitors the chance to partake in grape-stomping and other exciting activities. Spain also features art festivals during the fall that attract many curious onlookers. Poland’s capital city of Warsaw usually boasts a variety of music and cultural festivals during this time of year. Meals at sidewalk cafes in Paris and Krakow can still be enjoyed in the open air.

Europe is a great place to visit any time during the year and can suit just about any traveler’s particular taste and needs. Prices, weather conditions and the availability of open attractions should always be taken into consideration so that travelers can get the most out of their trips.
